Treat Yeast Infection Because of Antibiotics

When faced with bacterial infections, antibiotics are what most doctors prescribed. However, if overly used, this remedy may act as the very same medicine that may cause one kind of bacterial infection. This kind of infection is known as candidiasis, a yeast infection caused by organism called candida.

While antibiotics can kill bad bacteria, it can kill good bacteria as well - bacteria that the body needs to keep it healthy and resistant to infections. Thus, when these good bacteria are removed, infections such as yeast infection occur.

Yeast infections normally occur in the vagina, and at times, occur in the warm and moist body part such as the mouth. Aside from antibiotics, it can also be caused by pregnancy, stress, high blood sugar, and intake of birth control pills and steroid. This may weaken the immune system, and as a result triggering the yeast to multiply. Candidiasis is characterized by itching and irritation of the vagina and vulva, inflammation, odorless white discharge, and pain during urination or sex.

There are also instances when men are infected in their genital areas. And most causes are traced back to their usage of antibiotics.

Different antibiotics, however, have different degrees of side effects. Keflex, a type of cephalosporin antibiotics, causes greater infections than other antibiotics. Also, penicillin derivatives such as amoxicillin, cipro, and augmentin kills the healthy vaginal bacteria, resulting to more yeast infections. On the other hand, antibiotics that cause less yeast infections are tetracycline, sulfa, metronidazole, and erythromycin.

Nevertheless, no matter what causes the yeast infection, it is always recommended to seek medical advice from practicing physician when dealt with these infections.
